Bill writes:
In contrast to the girls, there are no boy's teams "heads-and-shoulders" above the others (on the girl's side, FM, Saratoga and Saugus enter the season significantly ahead of the other girl's teams) ... The number do place a few boys' teams ahead, but there are questions concerning these teams.American Fork UT is slightly the top number-rated team ... American Fork UT brings back 5 of the top 6 from last year's NXN where they finished 8th ... However, their speed numbers from NXN (180, 179, 178, 176, 171) will be equaled or exceeded by a bunch of teams by the end of the season, so I believe this team will need to improve to have a decent chance to win NXN.

High Altitude Camp
We returned today from our 3-day high altitude camp on Mt. Timpanogos. We had 30 boys and 20 girls go, which is largest group ever by 15 people.
We would like to thank the coaches, chaperones, and drivers who helped make this a great experience for the athletes.
On Tuesday, we got to camp at 1:30 for set up and then ran to Scout Falls.
Dinner was Dutch Oven Mexican and Dutch Oven Cake. We did a campfire program where everybody introduced themselves (lots of rookies).
Wednesday morning was pancakes and then our long run up from Tibble Fork Reservoir - around 35 min. up, and then faster back.
After the run, we all cooled off in the American Fork River above the reservoir.
Some of the youngsters had some fun with a mud fight.
Lunch was followed by games and then a 5 PM recovery run on the Great Western Trail.
Dinner was Bruno's famous dutch oven Caveman Stew and Kevin's dutch oven cherry chocolate cake.
Our campfire program had the team captains and coaches talk about the season ahead and our team goals.
This morning saw a french toast breakfast and then camp relays. Nafe's team scored a very narrow victory over Austin's team.
After lunch and clean up, we had ice cold watermelon and headed back to AFHS.
Everybody had an AWESOME time, and I only have two unclaimed hoodies left in the back of my truck.
Tomorrow morning we will be going to Alpine to run to Sliding Rock.

Reminder
Just a quick reminder - all athletes must have all their paperwork (Physical, Tryout checklist, and Parent Permit) handed in ASAP in order to go to camp July 13-15.
They also have had to run up grinder without walking - only 2 more Mondays to do that.
We will also need the $25 check -made out to Bruno Hunziker- before Friday, July 10th.
We will be shopping for food that Saturday.

Friday Run to Stewart Falls
Today, we went up the back side of Mt. Timpanogos for our run. We ran the road from Sundance to Aspen Grove, over to Stewart Falls and then back down to Sundance. It was a fun run with only 4 runners wiping out on the trail - minimal blood.
