Footlocker Nationals

Sara Musselman competed today in the 38th Footlocker Cross Country Nationals held at Balboa Park in San Diego. She is the first athlete representing AFHS in this race and did a fantastic job; placing 19th overall in a time of 18:00.7.

Nike Cross Nationals

The boys placed 2nd for the third time in the last 5 years at the Nike Cross Nationals held yesterday in Portland, Oregon at the Glendoveer Golf Course.
Casey Clinger was the Individual National Champion  for the second year in a row; the first boy to do so in the 13 year history of the meet. He won with a 5k time of 15:28.4. McKay Johns earned 2nd team All-America with a 9th place finish in 15:46.9, while Patrick Parker earned 3rd team All-America with a 20th place finish in 16:01.0.  The other competitors for the Cavemen were:

Footlocker West Regionals

Sara Musselman became the first AFHS athlete to qualify for Footlocker Nationals next Saturday in San Diego; doing so by finishing 8th overall in 18:13.2 for 5k at Footlocker West Regionals yesterday in Walnut, Ca. Sammy Hollingsworth placed 67th in 19:36.4

NXN-Southwest Results

It was nice, cool, and calm for the Girls Open Division Race. The American Fork girls placed 4th with a team time of 99:24.

The wind started picking up during the middle of the Boys Open Division Race.

The Boys Championship Race was next. It was in the low 80's with a strong East wind and lots of dust on the Casa Grande 5000m course. The boys earned their 8th straight trip to the National Championships, and 7th Regional championships with a 42 point win over their rivals from Davis.

NCAA Regional Championships

Four former Cavemen participated in the NCAA Mountain Region Championships yesterday, held in Logan, Utah.

Brayden McLelland ('13) placed 15th in 31:16 on the 10k course, and Clayton Young ('12) placed 23rd in 31:21 to help Brigham Young University take 3rd overall and earn a berth in the NCAA National Championships next week in Terre Haute, Indiana.



















Tyson Green ('13) placed 68th in 32:47 to help Weber State University place 10th as a team, while Joe Simmons ('16) placed 78th in 33:17 to help Idaho State University place 14th as a team.

American Fork High School hosted the 16th Annual UHSTCA Pre-Footlocker Invite this morning.
No team scores were kept. Grace Ping from Park City set a girls' course record with a 17:56, while Casey Clinger of American Fork set a boys' course record of 15:16.

Pre-Footlocker Invitational


The Utah High School Track Coaches Association will sponsor the 16th Annual Pre-Footlocker Meet at AFHS this Saturday. It is a 5K for high school athletes to prepare athletes for NXN-SW and Footlocker West. Registration will be $3 and will be from 7:30 AM to 8:15 AM. The Girls race will be at 8:30 AM and the Boys Race at 9:00 AM. No team scores will be kept. Checks should be made out to "UHSTCA"

Team Banquet

The Cross-Country team will have their banquet this Thursday, November 3rd at 6:00 PM at the AFHS Cafeteria. The entire family of each athlete is invited.

The Grinder - Postseason Week #2

The girls team had on girl win her spikes and 3 others break 10:30 yesterday up The Grinder:
Brooklyn Hopkins was the first girl this season to earn a pair of spikes with a time of 9:20.  Madison Hess ran 10:19, Kiley Wilson ran 10:17, and Becca Teeples ran 10:21 to all earn their Grinder shirt.

The boys had FloTrack come and film their Grinder workout.
Carson Clinger was the first boy this season to earn his spikes with a 7:57 clocking. Three boys ran sub 9:00 for the first time: Nathan Wright ran 8:44, Casey Chamberlain ran 8:50, and Ben McBride ran 8:57 to win earn their Grinder t-shirts.

Utah State Championships

This coming Wednesday is the Utah State Cross Country Championships, held at Sugarhouse Park (1300 East, 2100 South in Salt Lake City).
The bus will leave AFHS at 12:15 PM. Athletes must ride on the bus in order to be school excused.

The Girls Team will race at 2:00 PM. The Boys Team races at 3:30 PM.

Afterward, we will take the team to Chuckarama 400 S. 700 E.. JV athletes need to bring $15 for dinner; Varsity will be paid for.

Today the Cavemen participated in the Region IV Championships held at Westlake High School. It was cool, calm, and sunny. The course was 3.00 miles of grass, finishing 300 meters on the Westlake Track. Complete Results
