The Utah State Championships will be held Thursday, October 22nd at Soldier Hollow. The Bus will leave AFHS at 1:45 PM. We will only be able to take Varsity Team and alternates because of spectator limitations. As soon as the UHSAA releases spectator ticket protocol, we'll put it up.
Girls 6A Race: 4:00 PM
Boys 6A Race: 4:30 PM
To ensure COVID-19 risk mitigation takes place, all competitors and coaches are strongly encouraged
to be wearing masks immediately after exiting the buses. Additionally, competitors, coaches, officials
and staff should be wearing masks as they walk around the facility. Social distancing should be
observed in all places where reasonably possible. Competitors should remove their masks only when
warming up, in competition, and cooling down. Coaches should prepare to return masks to competitors
in the cool-down area. Additionally, programs are encouraged to not bring student-athletes who have
not qualified for the races.
Online tickets will be required to be purchased for all fans attending the State XC event at Soldier
Hollow. The tickets will be available for free through the UHSAA GoFan ticketing portal. All spectators
and administrators will be required to show entrance to the Soldier Hollow event. Masks are required at both
the Cedar High and Soldier Hollow sites.
Classifications are strongly encouraged to vacate as soon as possible after their awards ceremony and to show
up no sooner than 60 minutes before their assigned race time. Additionally, hand sanitizing is encouraged in the
facility, along with individual water containers for all attendees.
Teams are strongly encouraged to not set up team camps and to stay on buses, only leaving to warm-up, race
and subsequently cool-down. This will help with mitigation efforts, along with facilitating a timely exit from the
facility after awards.
Here's the message from the UHSAA about Covid restrictions:
Good afternoon, UHSAA 3A, 5A, and 6A XC Coaches and School Administrators:
In advance of next week's State XC Championships at Soldier Hollow, there are a variety of things we need to have a frank conversation about. First-and-foremost, Wasatch County and Soldier Hollow have been moved to the highest level of transmission risk in the state, which has caused a delay in the finalization of our ticket protocols. This has caused a delay to the opening of tickets, especially since we are waiting to finalize qualifiers in the classifications.
Soldier Hollow has informed us that we can have 1000 people in the venue at all times, including participants, coaches, spectators and staff. This number is a reasonable number Only IF teams restrict the numbers of non-participants they bring with them for this event. I am calling upon your school to please help with this potential issue in order to successfully complete the event.
Quite frankly, the risks of going over this limit of approx. 1000 people are high, as is the risk of not having all parties comply with the requirement of wearing masks in the venue. Failure to abide by these limits could lead to the event being recommended to be postponed or cancelled, which would be an absolute disservice to the individuals who have qualified for the competition.
If the meet is in danger, we will call an all-coaches meeting at the venue and ask you to kindly remove any non-participants and take them back to the bus. After that, we will remove spectators if necessary to allow the student-athletes to participate as scheduled. If we are unable to get cooperation, the meet/meets will be moved and rescheduled to another day and site to allow for completion. Thus, your cooperation is much appreciated as we try to fulfill our commitments to safety and completing the race while providing the best experience possible.
We must track all non-qualifiers by contact tracing. We are asking you as a school to cooperate by please having coaches provide a list of all non-participants, along with contact information for them, as they pick up team packets. This will allow us to provide detailed participant involvement to the Wasatch County Health Department.
The plan is to finalize the plan for spectators with Wasatch County and then to open the voucher submission links as soon as possible. Member schools and coaches will be notified of this procedure as soon as it is finalized to meet all of the new restrictions.
Additionally, they have started road construction on the road leading to Soldier Hollow, which can cause slight delays in getting to the facility. Please plan accordingly while exiting your bus/vehicles no earlier than 1 hour before your scheduled race time.
