The Grinder is a 1.3 mile road up through a neighborhood in Pleasant Grove. It starts at the stoplight on the corner of Canyon Road and 11th North. There is 400 foot gain in elevation, and its halfway point is about where the road crosses the Murdock Canal. A complete circuit from AFHS to the top of The Grinder and back is 8.5 miles with water stops at Discovery Park. Adding Mountain Dew Hill gives athletes a 10.8 mile run. Athletes earn a "I conquered The Grinder" t-shirt when they break 9:00 (boys) or 10:30 (girls). Running spikes are earned when they break 8:00 (boys) or 9:30 (girls). The high school records are Boys: 7:12 -Casey Clinger, 2016 and Girls: 9:03 - Cami Squires, 2014.

Congratulations to Mikayla Stepp for being the first runner to earn a Grinder t-shirt this Summer. She made it up in 10:17. Coach Dunkley lowered the women's record to 8:46 (2014). We would also like to thank Coach Benson from Timpanogos High School for bringing some of his boys to run with the boys team up The Grinder and Mountain Dew Hill this morning. Athletes only have two more Mondays in which to qualify for XC Camp. They must run all the way up The Grinder without walking.
Athletes also only have 18 more days in which to hand in their Physical Forms, Tryout Checklists, and Camp Forms with Check to go to camp. Athletes who do not make the Friday, July 13th deadline will not go to camp.
