NCAA Eligibility Information
The NCAA’s outreach and education efforts related to initial-eligibility continue to remain in full swing. These efforts focus on both Division I standards for college-bound student-athletes enrolling on or after August 1, 2016 and Division II college-bound student-athletes enrolling on or after August 1, 2018. The following materials, which have been made available to high school and non-scholastic athletic communities, also may be valuable to your colleagues, as they look to assist students and parents with the initial eligibility, recruiting and college selection processes. Also, in an effort to continue to spread the word about this important new information, we are pleased to announce that the NCAA’s Initial-Eligibility course available through NFHSLearn.com has been updated with the new academic requirements and is being made available free of charge! Please visit NFHSLearn.com and take 30-45 minutes to complete the Initial Eligibility course. This course will familiarize you and your colleagues with the new academic requirements, as well as the required NCAA Eligibility Center registration and certification process for college-bound student-athletes.

Senior Scholarship Opportunity
As you may know, the UIAAA and the NIAAA offer scholarships to deserving high school seniors. Below is a copy of the email sent last September asking for your school to send at least one male and one female for consideration. So far the UIAAA has only received a couple of applications and we are looking to increase the number of applicants from last year's number. A reminder, the deadline is January 31, 2015.
This email is a reminder, and a clarification, regarding the UIAAA scholarship program. The UIAAAis asking that you forward this information to all interested at your school. This would include all counselors, coaches and especially, senior athletes. There is no limit per school pertaining to the number of athletes that may apply.
The minimum requirements that must be attained in order to apply for the scholarship are found below. Notice the different set of criteria, one for the NIAAA and another for the UIAAA. The UIAAA will select 5 students to receive $1,000 scholarships. The top ranked male and female will be forwarded to the NIAAA for consideration. The links are -
Minimum Requirements for the NIAAA Scholarship
· Applicant must have achieved at least two (2) of the following: (a) minimum of B+ average; (b) ranked in the top 25% of class; (c) ACT score of 24 or an SAT score of 1100 (Verbal and Math only)
· Applicant must have participated in two sports for at least two years in each sport
· Applicant must have earned at least one varsity letter in each of two sports
· Applicant must complete attached scholar application
· Applicant must have a letter of recommendation from the high school athletic administrator/director
· School athletic administrator/director must be an NIAAA member and a member of their respective state athletic administrators association
· The principal or athletic administrator/director must sign the application to ensure that the academic information submitted is accurate
· All materials must be postmarked to UIAAA/NIAAA scholarship program 199 East 7200 South, Midvale, Utah 84047. (no later than January 31, 2015.)

Please note that the UIAAA uses the NIAAA scholarship form to identify all scholarship winners. The deadline in Utah is January 31, 2015. This is the hard and fast deadline for UTAH!
76 seniors applied last year and the UIAAA is looking to double that number.

Weekend Results
Nike Cross Nationals. The 5000 meter race was held at Glendoveer Golf Course in Portland, Oregon.
This was the sixth straight appearance at NXN for the boys team. They had their second best showing with a 5th place finish. Casey Clinger (8th place) and Zac Jacklin(16th place) were named second and third team All-America, respectively. The girls were at NXN for the first time in program history and placed 22nd overall.

NXN Information
RACE DAY SPECTATOR PARKING INFORMATION
All spectators will need to park at the Tri Met Park and Ride at 12202 E Burnside St (full address below) where shuttles will transport you to/from Glendoveer Golf Course. Please plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the race start to allow ample time:

Should the lot above fill up, you will be directed to an overflow lot within one mile of the Tri Met Park and Ride. You may also access this lot via the Tri Met MAX train using the E 122nd/Menlo Park stop on the Blue Line.

AIR / TRANSPORTATION/ HOTEL ACCOMODATIONS
-Athlete’s family members are responsible for their own travel, ground transportation and hotel accommodations. Hotel recommendations and rates can be found at www.nikecrossnationals.com.
-Due to liability concerns, family members will NOT be allowed to ride with the athletes on the buses.
-Athletes will be transported by a designated NXN bus at all times, and due to liability concerns will not be permitted to leave event premises with family members or friends during their stay in Portland.
-Family members are welcome at the Embassy Suites Hotel anytime over the weekend to visit. We do ask that families enable their athlete to focus on their athlete activities.
-Parents do NOT need to register their athlete online; athletes will be registered by meet staff.
