Milesplit Pre-Season Analysis
Milesplit.com has published an analysis of the upcoming season. It was written by Alan Versaw, coach at The Classical Academy in Colorado Springs, Co.. It points out the obvious: Davis is our big competition for this Fall. XCNATION.com has come out with their pre-season top 100. Davis is ranked 3rd in their rankings, while the Cavemen are 14th.
Let's keep working hard to make up the difference between our two teams from track season. We did it last year, and if we continue training like we have, we can do it again!

The Grinder and Other News
The Grinder is a 1.3 mile road up through a neighborhood in Pleasant Grove. It starts at the stoplight on the corner of Canyon Road and 11th North. There is 400 foot gain in elevation, and its halfway point is about where the road crosses the Murdock Canal. A complete circuit from AFHS to the top of The Grinder and back is 8.5 miles with water stops at Discovery Park. Adding Mountain Dew Hill gives athletes a 10.8 mile run. Athletes earn a "I conquered The Grinder" t-shirt when they break 9:00 (boys) or 10:30 (girls). Running spikes are earned when they break 8:00 (boys) or 9:30 (girls). The high school records are Boys: 7:12 -Casey Clinger, 2016 and Girls: 9:03 - Cami Squires, 2014.

Congratulations to Mikayla Stepp for being the first runner to earn a Grinder t-shirt this Summer. She made it up in 10:17. Coach Dunkley lowered the women's record to 8:46 (2014). We would also like to thank Coach Benson from Timpanogos High School for bringing some of his boys to run with the boys team up The Grinder and Mountain Dew Hill this morning. Athletes only have two more Mondays in which to qualify for XC Camp. They must run all the way up The Grinder without walking.
Athletes also only have 18 more days in which to hand in their Physical Forms, Tryout Checklists, and Camp Forms with Check to go to camp. Athletes who do not make the Friday, July 13th deadline will not go to camp.
Last Saturday, several Cavemen participated at the Strawberry Days 5k in Pleasant Grove. Alumni Mack Morrison and Dallas Griswold placed first and third, respectively, with times of 15:56 and 17:51. Future Lady Caveman Lexie Wright placed 2nd in the women's division and 24th overall with a time of 20:47, while future Caveman Matthew Morrison placed 24th in the Men's division and 28th overall with a time of 21:05.
Parent booster Mark Morrison placed 52nd overall and 2nd in his age group with a time of 23:39.

Postal Nationals
XCNATION revived the Postal Nationals this year. You submit the top five 3200 meter times from track season. We were fortunate, for the second year in a row, to have 7 boys break 10:00 for 3200m. Since we're at altitude, they use the NCAA altitude adjustments to compensate.
Our boys averaged 9:14.89 (alt. adjusted) to finished Third in the Nation!
Congratulations to Mack, Brayden, Tyson, Connor, Clayton, Zac, and Caleb!
Postal Nationals winners this year are our friends at Davis: Brad, Brayden, Alex, Logan, and Andrew with an altitude adjusted average of 9:11.88.
Other friends of our program who were ranked:
13. Ft. Collins, Co. 9:26.85
43.Mountain View, Ut. 9:34.74
79.Desert Vista, Az. 9:41.38
105.Herriman, Ut. 9:45.03
