We just returned from Cross-Country Camp which was held at Altamont Campground up American Fork Canyon. Elevation was 7250' at the campground. We appreciate all the parents who drove the athletes to and from camp, and especially our chaperones: The Hansens, Mr. Moore, and Mrs. Corbridge.
Wednesday: The morning began early with french toast, and then an 8 mile run from Tibble Fork up the North Road. Sitting in the river to cool off was a fun time after the run. In the afternoon, the athletes received lessons in nutrition from Coach Dunkley, and on training from Coach Mostert. The afternoon run was a 4 miler on the Great Western Trail up to Salamander Flats and back. Dinner was Caveman Stew with donuts for dessert. The athletes got to hear words of wisdom from program alumnus and NCAA 10,000 meter champion Clayton Young who came up for the evening with his wife Ashley and their daughter Lucy. The Girls and Boys team captains then gave their talks on training and set the Team goals for the season. Last off were the coaches who talked about expectations and setting team and individual goals for the season.
Thursday: We began early with pancakes for breakfast. After striking camp, we had our camp relay race: 9 teams of 5 athletes each. Each athletes ran two half-mile legs.
after which we had snacks, loaded up, and returned to AFHS. It was a great time in the middle of our Summer training.
